A new scholarship fund will support the entrepreneurial aspirations and activities of current UMSI students, thanks to the generosity and vision of Judy and Than Field.
The Judy and Than Field Entrepreneurship and Innovation Endowment Scholarship Fund will provide need-based assistance for students to attend entrepreneurial events and to support initiatives and activities that enhance students’ educational experiences. Preference will be given to UMSI students engaged in collaborative projects with students from the Ross School of Business and the College of Engineering. Examples of initiatives include Start-up Treks, the South by Southwest mix-pitch competition, MPowered pitches and other entrepreneurial activities.
“Information — the need for it and the quality and reliability of it — is the foundation of many professions,” said Judy in describing the couple’s motivation for establishing their scholarship fund. “The need for reliable and accurate information is an underlying need of entrepreneurs. I hope our gift will serve to remind them of the importance that teamwork can play in their successes.”
Judy also supports the Judith J. Field Scholarship Fund, which provides assistance to students interested in the field of special librarianship and students who are strongly committed to librarianship, are interested in providing quality service, are forward-thinking and demonstrate a strong potential for leadership.
Judy is a three-time graduate of the University of Michigan, holding a bachelor’s degree and two master’s degrees: an MBA and an AMLS (’63). She is a Professional in Residence at Wayne State University’s School of Library and Information Science. She was inducted into the Special Library Association’s Hall of Fame in 2010.
