Sarah Barbrow (MSI ’11), who won the fall 2011 Margaret Mann Award, has just been recognized with another award for her outstanding teaching at the School of Natural Resources and Environment while a student at UMSI. The Rackham Graduate School has announced that Sarah is one of just 20 Outstanding Graduate Student Instructor Award recipients for 2011-12. The award ceremony will take place at 2 p.m. Thursday, April 19 in the Rackham Amphitheatre, with a public reception to follow. All are invited to attend.

Three UMSI alumni and a UMSI faculty member have been named “2012 Movers & Shakers” by Library Journal. Clinical Assistant Professor Kristin Fontichiaro is a “change agent.” David Wasserman (MILS ’95), online services coordinator for the King County Library System in Issaquah, WA, is a “community builder.” Two alumni were named “tech leaders”: Stephen Flynn (MSI ’11), emerging technologies librarian at College of Wooster Libraries in Ohio, and Richard Kong (MSI ’06), digital services manager of the Arlington Heights Memorial Library in Illinois.

Joshua Gerrish (MSI ‘09) is a software development engineer at UIEvolution in Kirkland, WA.

Tammy Greene (MSI ’09) began a new job as information architect at IFC Ironworks in Washington, D.C.

Andrea McVittie (MSI ’09) is a user experience designer with The Omni Group in Seattle, WA.

Sameer Halai (MSI ’08) recently began a new job as a user experience director at Limeade in Bellevue, WA.

Elisabeth Jones (MSI ’07) is a research associate (post-doc) at the University of Michigan and is completing her Ph.D. in information science at the University of Washington. She will be moving back to Ann Arbor in June.

Dheeraj Motwani (MSI ’04) works for Google in Singapore and is the industry analyst covering the travel and tourism industry in Southeast Asia.

Carole Van Houten Thomas (AMLS ’69) retired in 2007 from her position as library director of the Belmont Hill School (a boys prep school near Boston) and relocated to Madison, WI to be near family. Since moving she has chaired the library committee of her church and been instrumental in putting its library catalog online.
