The External Advisory Board of the School of Information is comprised of nationally recognized information experts from business and academia who provide counsel on a wide range of issues affecting the future of UMSI, from curriculum development to research initiatives. Each month we profile a current board member.
As both a designer and a researcher, Jackie Cerretani Frank (MSI ’09) has focused on creating great digital experiences informed and inspired by understanding people and society. Since June 2009, when she started at Facebook as a user experience researcher, she has worked on such seminal products as Facebook Connect, the “like” button, Places, and Timeline. She is currently research manager for Facebook’s Advertising and Pages.
Jackie has been crafting experiences on the web for over a decade. In 2000, she designed and coded her first website for a crunchy co-op in upstate New York. From those humble beginnings, she built a full-service graphic and web design studio, Lost Art Media, which she left in 2007 to pursue an MSI at the University of Michigan in HCI and social computing. She has interned at the Nokia Research Center with the Mobile Business Solutions team, published a paper at Interact 2011, with her UMSI teammates won second prize at the CHI 2008 Student Design Competition and, in a former life, wrote scripts for NPR programming and studied birds at the Cornell Lab of Ornithology.
